Abundance of wood at site makes ants an expected occurence

Since you can typically find a great deal of wood at a construction site, you have a fairly good chance of finding carpenter ants as well. You will probably see winged ants that are trying to find food. Another sign is produced when they tunnel through wood to build their nests. If you see wood shavings mixed with parts from dead ants, you are probably looking at the debris created by the building of the colony. While they are commonly black, they can be found in a variety of colors, including brown, red, yellow and even orange.
